WHILE e-tv is spinning lots of lovely cash for HCI, the jury is out on whether the group’s 36% in the Dreamworld film studios near Faurc will reap similar benefits over the next few years.
In its recent financial results HCI only makes a curt reference to Dreamworld, noting the studios will finally commence being built this financial year.

But HCI also believes Dreamworld studios will be a “useful addition” to the group`s current media businesses.

There’s not been an abundance of fresh news from Dreamworld itself on when construction on the studio will take place, although the website shows that a number of specialists (project managers, landscapers and architects) have already been appointed.

CBN managed to secure comment from Anant Singh, chairman of Dreamworld, who indicates that the subdivision of the property was completed by the authorities (City of Cape Town) on August 17.

He says detailed drawings for submission to the authorities are now being finalised for submission for approval.

“Once the detailed drawings are completed, it is intended to go out to tender to potential contractors.”

“These tender documents are currently being prepared.” Singh reckons construction is expected to start as soon as the plans are passed and contractors are appointed in terms of the tender process.

He says the studio is expected to be operational 12-14 months after construction begins.
