Golden Arrow is pleased and extremely relieved with the judgement handed down this morning in the Cape High Court by the Honourable Justice Anthony Binns-Ward.
The judgement effectively means that the National Department of Transport must pay the outstanding passenger subsidies on demand and further that there is nothing to prevent Treasury from making the necessary funds available from the National Revenue Fund.

This means that the State can no longer hide behind imaginary barriers of regulation when a court order is issued against it.

Golden Arrow has requested the payment of the outstanding passenger subsidies by 16h00 today and has the High Court’s permission to approach the Court for such further relief as it might be advised to seek should payment not be effected. Such further relief could include contempt of court charges against State functionaries.

The company sincerely hopes that the Government will comply with the latest court order and effect payment of the outstanding passenger subsidies. Receipt of the monies in question will allow the company to continue with the provision of its services and to fulfil its commitments to its passengers, staff and other stake holders.
