Mobi Television and South African broadcaster e.tv are planning to launch a satellite television channel in Zambia this May, according to local reports.

The proposed channel, to broadcast local content, would continue e.tv’s expansion – which has so far seen it launch channels in Botswana, Ghana and Kenya, as well as South Africa.

Malebo Phage, a consultant for e.tv, told the Zambia Daily Mail, e.tv Zambia would be available free to air to viewers with decoders. Local broadcaster Mobi Television will he said, facilitate the new TV channel.

Ria Bonthuys, is expected to be named chief executive officer for E-TV Zambia. The family-focused channel will air a variety of local news stories, as well as wrestling and other sports, she told the Zambia Daily Mail.
