GOLF EVENT HELPS CHARITY

The Gauteng semi-final of South Africa’s most prestigious golf tournament, the Duke of Edinburgh Cup, culminated with the donation of over R200 000 to three local charities by Montecasino.

Secured by Tsogo Sun Gaming and hosted by each of the casino operator’s five properties around the country, the Duke of Edinburgh Cup is an international tournament which takes place in five South African cities each year, culminating in the opportunity to win the golfer’s trip of a lifetime: the chance to play at one of the most exclusive golf estates in the world.

Through their sponsorship of the South African leg of the tournament, Tsogo Sun Gaming and its five properties, each year contribute in excess of R700 000 to charities around the country, of which Montecasino donates the lion’s share.

In line with Tsogo Sun Gaming’s philosophy of supporting charities that provide relief to those infected or affected by the HI V/Aids pandemic, R30 000 was handed over to Banakakeleni, an Aids haven that was established by a former school teacher in 2003 to assist people with Aids and HIV infection in the community of Alexandra.

The second charity to benefit from the Duke of Edinburgh Cup in Gauteng, Witkoppen primary school, received R50 000, and last, but not least, the Witkoppen Health & Welfare Centre, a haven offering support and counselling for families infected and affected by HIV and Aids, also feeding 26 children living in the Centre, received R130 000.
