October 22 – Tsogo Sun, the leading South African hotel and casino group, is doing its bit to reduce its carbon footprint by taking a number of important steps at its resorts across the country.

The group, which manages over 3,200 hotel rooms at multiple casino complexes, such as the Montecasino and Gold Reef in Gauteng, began moving in the energy reduction direction in 2010 when it replaced all its element water heating systems with heat pump technologies.

It took one year for Tsogo Sun to complete this project and the result was a 60% reduction in electricity consumption for hot water generation at the group’s casinos and hotels.

Since 2006, Tsogo Sun has managed to effectively reduce its energy usage by 21% and it is clear that Tsogo Sun’s energy reduction efforts are paying off.

According to Tsogo Sun, its ongoing efforts, which are a clear display of the group’s corporate responsibility policy, have managed to reduce its carbon footprint by 7,500 tons of CO2 each year. Tsogo Sun has also saved almost 19 million kWh of energy.
Tsogo Sun Casino Properties

Tsogo Sun spans 14 different properties across six South African provinces, and the group’s portfolio includes some of the country’s oldest and most reputable complexes.

Tsogo Sun’s first casino opened in Nelspruit in 1997and, since then, the group has been at the forefront of South African’s casino industry.

Today, Tsogo Sun’s casinos include its flagship operation, Montecasino, complimented by Gold Reef City in Johannesburg and Krugersdorp’s Silverstar Casino.
