Tsogo Sun’s new hotel property in Rosebank, 54 on Bath, a five star boutique hotel located on Bath Avenue will open on 1 July.

Dubbed –‘A Hotel for You’, this new modern property used to be the Grace Hotel and office buildings in Rosebank.

Tsogo Sun Holdings is one of the largest Johannesburg Stock Exchange listed companies in the hotel and tourism sector.

It bought the Grace Hotel property in October 2011.

Graham Wood, managing director of Tsogo Sun Hotels explains that they acquired the property from Hyprop Investments Limited at a good price and they aim to spend between R20 million and R25 million on refurbishing the property.

He says because the property has got a history to it, they have created a property with a strong personality hence the name, 54 on Bath.

It is well located, a reflection of the property’s iconic nature, he says.

Wood points out that 54 on Bath promises to be good growth potential for Tsogo Sun adding the Rosebank node to their existing footprint.

The vision of this new boutique property is to provide a unique guest experience combined with a personalised approach and intense attention to detail.

He notes that Rosebank is emerging as an exciting business and leisure node appealing to the local residents and the travellers alike.

The Gautrain has boosted development and changes in the immediate precinct are underway with major construction and refurbishments taking place, says Woods.

54 On Bath will open on 1 July featuring 60 standard rooms, 12 luxury suites and three penthouse suites – expect to pay R3 500 per person including breakfast.

Guests and local residents can choose to relax in the intimate champagne bar on the fourth floor, enjoy the boutique coffee bar in the lobby lounge or have traditional afternoon tea which will be served on the terrace and in the lounge.

The restaurant is an uncomplicated yet elegant space that allows for intimate and comfortable dining and opens up to the renowned fourth floor roof terrace and garden.

David Muirhead, of David Muirhead & Associates, designed the interior of 54 On Bath.

Muirhead says 54 on Bath is an iconic building in Johannesburg north and in refurbishing the property, he explains that they worked with the classic foundation and lines of the property and evolved the interiors in a way that was respectful to the architecture.

This landmark building has been given an interior that is urban chic yet classic, and is all about a revival, not only of the hotel, but of the commercial node of Rosebank, making the design both exciting and uplifting,” says Muirhead.

Art is a strong feature in 54 On Bath, with many of the photographic pieces having been especially commissioned –offering a visual journey that celebrates Johannesburg.
