BUS MONEY UNCERTAINTY

02 Feb Transport

The Golden Arrow bus company was waiting for confirmation of reports that it had been paid the subsidy money it went to court for, spokesperson Vuyisile Mdoda said on Monday.
The Cape High Court ruled on Friday that the national transport department must pay Golden Arrow over R92-million owed in commuter subsidies since November.

Golden Arrow had threatened an urgent application to the court on Monday if the money was not paid by close of business on Friday.

Mdoda was not able to say whether the court action would go ahead.

A court official said legal teams for the State and Golden Arrow were scheduled to meet acting Judge Ashley Binns-Ward on Monday.

The national Treasury announced on Friday it would provide funds to help the transport department pay the outstanding subsidies to operators in Gauteng and the Western Cape.
