PLATCO AGREES CONDITIONAL ACCESS DEAL WITH CISCO

Platco Digital, the sister company of South African commercial broadcaster e.tv, has signed a conditional access deal with Cisco for its new multi-channel satellite TV service.

Platco has selected Cisco’s VideoGuard conditional access solution to protect the distribution of content on its free-to-air DTH platform, OpenView HD.

The CA system will ensure that only licensed set-top boxes can access the services and will also enable Platco to better understand its viewership statistics, said Cisco.

Platco’s OpenView HD platform will provide subscription-free HD TV and will initially be deployed in South Africa. Platco signed a deal with satellite operator SES in July to offer the service.
