CITY OF CAPE TOWN AND GOLDEN ARROW’S NEW UNIT TO SECURE DANGEROUS BUS ROUTES

Following a recent spate of attacks on buses in the Western Cape, Golden Arrow Bus Services will be implementing a Transport Enforcement Unit to secure its bus routes.

The unit will be similar to that implemented on Metrorail trains in the city, the Rail Enforcement Unit.

The City of Cape Town will co-finance the unit, including staff and operational costs.

The City’s mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith says the unit will be guided by the data from Golden Arrow in terms of hotspots where these buses are being attacked.

The City Council will be meeting on Wednesday to discuss the matter further and agree on a start date.
